Seattle Farmers' Market

I had a lot of fun painting this 24" x 36" piece.  I took newsprint ads from Pike Place Market in Seattle and used them in the underpainting.  I then photocopied debris and signage that could be found in a farmers' market and incorporated the collage elements into the painting.  The windows of the building on the right have the table of contents from The Moosewood Cookbook to remind the viewer that delicious food awaits.  Finally, I painted in oil to connect all the fragments into an image that evokes the bustle, food, and ambiance of the typical Farmers' Market.

Soar

This triptych is titled "Soar"and will be my contribution to a Creative Arts for Women (CAW) event this fall. It is an interpretation of Icarus's attempt to fly, and the fall when he got too close to the sun.  It takes on new meaning when cast in the context of women's goals in the world.
